Auto Innovators Calls for Action During Vehicle Safety Recalls Week

Washington, DC –  March 9, 2021 – The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and others in promoting Vehicle Safety Recalls Week, which is March 8-12. More than 55 million vehicles on U.S. roads today have open recalls.  Industry leaders remain committed to working to reduce that number through new tools and technology solutions.

“It’s important that consumers check the recall status of their vehicle and contact their local dealer to schedule any necessary repairs – which are provided free of charge,” said Auto Innovators President and CEO John Bozzella. “The availability of new tools and smartphone apps has made checking for vehicle recalls easier and faster than ever. And again, these recall repairs are free to the consumer.”

One key tool to promoting recall awareness involves a partnership with CARFAX. “Our ongoing partnership with CARFAX has led to an innovative tool allowing businesses to automatically check their vehicle inventory for open recalls.  It can also provide companies, such as insurance providers, with important safety information to help notify their customers,” said Bozzella.  “This initiative is also helping support state efforts to inform drivers as part of the vehicle registration process or during a state safety inspection.  Auto Innovators welcomes state leadership in advancing recall awareness and action.”

Auto Innovators and our members urge all stakeholders to leverage these new tools to ensure everyone is aware of the of the recall status of their vehicle, and most importantly, that vehicle owners take action to have their vehicle fixed.
