WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alliance for Automotive Innovation today released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency announced a delay in the phase-in for Tier 4 criteria emission standards for light-and medium-duty vehicles until model year 2029.
John Bozzella, president and CEO, Alliance for Automotive Innovation, said:
"This is a smart and necessary step on the Tier 4 criteria emission standards from Administrator Zeldin and EPA that makes a lot of sense given current market conditions.
“We’ve been clear: Not only do the emission standards finalized under the previous administration remain unachievable absent significant growth in electric vehicle sales, but they would also make gas-powered vehicles more expensive.
“So, this is positive movement toward a more balanced automotive regulatory environment in the U.S. And this is ultimately what the country needs: stable, reasonable, achievable automotive standards that continue to reduce emissions, protect consumer choice and affordability, and support innovation.”
