Alliance for Automotive Innovation Applauds New California Statewide Clean Fuel Reward Program

California Air Resources Board and California electric utilities announce point of purchase rebate for purchase or lease of any eligible new battery or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators) today congratulated the California Air Resources Board and utilities in California on launching its new Clean Fuel Reward (CFR). This first-in-California program will provide up to $1,500 per vehicle as a point-of-purchase price reduction for Battery Electric (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. This rebate is in addition to California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) standard rebate, the state’s low-income bonus, and local incentives like the “Drive Clean in the San Joaquin” rebate program. The additional price reduction is in line with Auto Innovators’ vision for a cleaner, safer, and smarter future for the auto industry.  We continue to support the low carbon fuel standard — a market-based policy that can increase vehicle electrification with investments in infrastructure and rebates, all while reducing the carbon intensity of liquid fuels.

“This type of point-of-sale price reduction helps ease the path for widespread electric vehicle adoption,” said John Bozzella, President and CEO of Auto Innovators. “We applaud the California Air Resources Board for bringing stakeholders together to develop a non-taxpayer funded program that provides up to $1,500 to encourage any Californian to choose electric. Applied at the time of sale, the CFR will keep money in consumers’ pockets, giving them immediate savings and lowering the total cost over the life of the car or lease. This sort of collaborative effort to incentivize the adoption of low-carbon technologies is a win for California consumers, the environment, dealers, and automakers pushing to create a cleaner, safer, and smarter future.”

Starting today, California residents in the market for a new car or lease can visit www.CleanFuelReward.com to find out the vehicles available, incentive amounts, and dealerships enrolled in the program. Dealers not already enrolled in the program can also visit www.CleanFuelReward.com to begin offering the incentive to their customers.
