Statement attributable to Alliance for Automotive Innovation President and CEO, John Bozzella:
The auto industry, the largest manufacturing sector in the United States, is focused on ensuring that our workforce and our customers are safe and have a path to economic recovery. So we strongly support initiatives to help those affected by the current public health and economic situation while returning the economy to full strength. The auto industry has put together a high-level industry task force to monitor the situation, share information and address future developments driven by recommendations from public health experts. And we remain in close contact with key policymakers and stakeholders. As Congress and the administration continue to develop legislation, we will continue to closely monitor the industry and economy for potential impacts on consumers. The auto industry is a key part of this economy and it will continue to do its part to protect consumers and our employees.
Examples of key actions that Congress and the Administration can take to help employers and the broader economy include: temporarily cancel/suspend employer payroll taxes; ensure financial resources and loans are available for businesses who are impacted by COVID-19; delay/defer quarterly federal tax payments; expand/extend expensing for equipment and machinery; and delay the in-force date for the recently enacted USMCA.
