“The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to update the rules for short-range radars in the 60 GHz spectrum band is a key step to enabling in-vehicle radar-based safety technologies and will serve to help further the auto industry’s goal of saving lives. We appreciate Acting Chair Rosenworcel’s dedication to this shared effort which includes potentially lifesaving innovations that can help detect a child alone in a vehicle.
“The industry has already made a voluntary commitment to equip all covered passenger cars and light trucks with rear seat reminder systems by Model Year 2025. These systems will provide a distinct combination of audible and visual alerts whenever there is the potential presence of an occupant or occupants in a rear seat.”
