Auto Innovators Statement on Effort to Avert Rail Strike

‘Intervening now to avert a rail strike that would cause

significant damage to the economy is the right thing for Congress to do’

WASHINGTON, DC – Alliance for Automotive Innovation today released the following statement regarding effort by Congress to avert a rail strike.

John Bozzella, president and CEO of Alliance for Automotive Innovation, said: “The automotive industry is the country’s largest manufacturing sector. It relies on freight rail to deliver parts and components to factories and get finished vehicles to dealers and ports across the country. Intervening now to avert a rail strike that would cause significant damage to the economy is the right thing for Congress to do. Any work stoppage on the country’s freight railways would damage domestic automotive supply chains still recovering from the serial supply challenges we faced in the last couple of years and hurt consumers and dealers already struggling with historically tight auto inventories.”

Background:

Each year, freight rail moves nearly 75 percent of the new cars and light trucks purchased in the U.S. and carries 1.8 million carloads of motor vehicles and parts. (Source: Association of American Railroads)
