The Senior Director or Director of Energy & Environment Policy will develop, communicate, and advocate for policies that support our members’ vision for current and future vehicle emission programs related to zero emission and internal combustion engine vehicles. As directed by the Vice President of Energy and Environment Policy, the Senior Director or Director will also represent Auto Innovators before federal and state legislative and regulatory bodies and coordinate industry responses to federal and state environmental initiatives.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Anticipate, monitor, and identify issues related to
  • California low and zero emission vehicle regulations, Clean Air Act Section 177 state adoption of California requirements, and federal vehicle emission regulations that affect the industry;
  • EV charging and hydrogen refueling policies, regulations, and legislation; and
  • Other EV related policies, regulations, and legislation.
  • Develop and coordinate Auto Innovators positions on regulatory and legislative issues and policies.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality comments, presentations, testimony, and other advocacy materials on regulatory and policy issues.
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive, and constructive relationships with member companies, California Air Resources Board (CARB), other state environmental regulatory agencies, trade associations, non-government organizations, and relevant federal and state agencies.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of industry and policy trends.
  • Communicate and collaborate Energy & Environment positions with other Auto Innovators departments including Communications, Federal, and State Affairs.
  • Routinely interact with member companies, other trade associations, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, California Air Resources Board, and other relevant federal and state/local agencies.
  • Travel as needed in the United States.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum five years of experience in vehicle emission and/or zero emission vehicle regulations and supportive measures (e.g., infrastructure, incentives, consumer education).
  • Experience working with California Air Resources Board (CARB) and/or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on vehicle emission regulations highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including the ability to run meetings and manage several workgroups comprised of member companies with possible diverse perspectives.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and achieve consensus among Auto Innovators members.
  • Ability to interpret legislative and regulatory initiatives and identify their potential impact on the industry.
  • Strong teamwork skills, and thrives in a high-pace, collaborative, and dynamic work setting.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; good computer skills and ability to learn and incorporate Auto Innovators electronic management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or similar technical degree is preferred.
  • For Director level candidates: minimum 5 years of experience in the field of energy, environment, and government policy (including potential work in a trade association).
  • For Sr. Director level candidates: minimum 15 years of experience in the field of energy, environment, and government policy (including potential work in a trade association).
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory rulemaking and legislative processes.

To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. The anticipated salary range for this position at Director level is $130,000 to $175,000. The anticipated salary range for this position at Senior Director level is $215,000 to $230,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate location, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the range listed. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, medical benefits, 401(k) plan, and other company perk programs.
